Surface Polishing

Manual workers have been replaced by machines in many industrial processes. But there are still a number of complex tasks where our mechanical systems are decidedly too clumsy. The delicate tools used for extrusion of aluminium or plastic profiles are therefore often polished manually.
Yet it then takes one or two days to finish the tool.

A “liquid file” - a surface polishing process of Micro Technica® Technologies - is able to accomplish the same work in just thirty or forty minutes.

This Surface polishing technology can be used to refine finishes of both new EDM´ed Dies and Dies that have already been in service.

Surface polishing improved dramatically, with resultant small, controlled radii all around the profile.

Micro Technica® Technologies AFM Process of surface polishing uses a viscous, abrasive laden media that is flowed, under pressure, back and forth trough a Die in a Machine Tool. The Die is often clamped directly between the two Media cylinders in the machine but sometimes Adaptor Plates are used also. As the Media is forced through the Die it acts as a “Flowable Ginding Wheel” witch conforms to the profile of the Die openings.

Key variables in this Surface polishing process are Streamer medium type, operating pressure, surface speed and medium flow. All are rigidly controlled for repeatability of results.
This computer control enables close tolerances to be maintained and, because of its inherent flexibility, the process can be applied to a wide range of Extrusion Dies.
