Safe and Parallel Opening of Aluminium Extrusion Dies

The method used until now, namely the separation of such hollow-chamber dies with “hammer and chisel” has serious disadvantages: serious accident risk on operator and damages on the die itself. |

Simplified Disassembly of Hollow-Chamber Dies - Operational Safety System
|
The - Automated Die Splitting System- EWT2000 is a system where dies can be quick, parallel, carefully and reliably disassembled.
Standard System for dies from 190 to 480 mm

Vertical Splitter for Dies from 500 to 1200 mm just in development.

All hollow-chamber extrusion Dies have a parting groove between the Die itself and the bridge. Two parts are separated by specially developed parting tools introduced into this groove, which also automatically centre the Die and fix it in axial position.
The automatically adjustable parting force is then applied and - via a transfer system – the opening force exerted in the parting groove by each parting tool is increased. This ensures asymmetrical, self-centring and radial force application to produce uniform opening motion. Slow axial opening is ensured by a hydraulic transmit throttled movement.
The machine is powered by a pneumatic-hydraulic transmission drive and can be easily be connected to the existing compressed air system (6 to 10 bar). The Dies are brought in and removed from the side on a roller track or by a hoist. Besides the Standard machine (Die diameter from 210 to 460), individually tailored for bigger Dies (>460 up to approx. 800) and integrated systems can be provided. |
Micro Technica Technologies GmbH, a company known as specialist in “Solutions for Aluminium Industries” with his head quarter in Germany, Kornwestheim (near Stuttgart), has developed a machine with which hollow-chamber extrusion Dies can be quick, parallel, carefully an reliably disassembled.
The new EWT2000 System is based on many years of experience an investigation in aluminium extrusion plants.
The method used until now, namely the separation of such hollow chamber Dies with “hammer and chisel” has serious disadvantages: The unsymmetrical application of the parting force results in sticking and tilting of the Dies to be separated, when even a slight tilt of the two parts leads to damage of the contour of the Die and the mandrel. And not least, the experience has shown that manual opening is a high risk procedure for those carrying it out.
The advantages of the new EWT2000 System are that in any plant it can be integrated into the handling procedures for the preparation, and Dies for the extrusion of hollow sections can be parted economically without being damaged. At the same time, the simplified handling results in cost savings since accident risk on operator fatigue are greatly reduced.
Thanks to the full controlled, automatically and exactly adjustable, and in the uniform way that the parting force is applied at the circumstance of the extrusion Die, titling of its two portions and uncontrolled springing apart are prevented. The simplicity of the operation and the safe opening achieved greatly facilitate the days work with extrusion Dies. Wear on the closure passages its no longer non-uniform, and this considerably prolongs the lifetime of the extrusion Dies. |
